Canadian middle-distance triathlon star Paula Findlay has confirmed she has been selected to represent her country at the UCI Cycling World Championships next month, after the 34-year-old won the national championships in her hometown of Edmonton last month.

Findlay, who defended her title from 2022, will now head to Glasgow in August to represent Team Canada in the Individual Time Trial, which is set to take place on Thursday, August 10 over a challenging 36.2km course.

Before that, however, she will race triathlon’s PTO Tour US Open in Milwaukee a week earlier. From there, Findlay will travel to race in Glasgow and then stay in Europe for the two weeks leading into the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Finland on August 26.

Sharing the news of her selection on social media, Findlay revealed that the excitement to compete in Glasgow also came with a little trepidation, as the triathlon veteran prepares to test herself in unfamiliar territory.

Writing on Instagram, she revealed: “Excited to announce that I’ve been selected to race the ITT at the UCI Cycling World Championships for Canada. I’ve been competing for so long in my life that I can’t remember a time when I’ve felt like such a rookie at an event.

“I am looking forward to putting myself out there and learning from the best in the world. Thank you Cycling Canada for the opportunity! From Glasgow I’ll head straight to Finland to prep for the 70.3 World Championships, so it’s a big month ahead.”

Findlay, second at the St George IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in 2022, will be hoping to go one better this year in Lahti, Finland. Having finished fifth at the PTO Tour European Open in Ibiza, a strong result in Milwaukee before her focus shifts to cycling in Glasgow will be a good indicator of her podium potential.
