Sam Laidlow is box office, and he is looking to prove the point again with his brand new documentary, which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday.
The newly-crowned IRONMAN World Champion released the behind-the-scenes documentary ‘Look Mum, I Can Fly’ exactly one month after his epic swim, bike and run to glory in Nice.
We won’t spoil it all for you, but it’s a fascinating watch – exploring the relationships Sam has with his dad Richard, his mum Michelle and his little brother Jake among others. This is the ultimate family project of course, with the Laidlows having relocated to southern France to set up a triathlon training business when Sam was a mere toddler.

The documentary (you can watch it by clicking on the embed below) looks at Laidlow’s whole year – including the rollercoaster build-up to Nice which included a liver infection in Lanzarote, a torn calf at Challenge Roth and the COVID which followed his PTO Tour Asian Open bid.
The documentary also provides fascinating verdicts on Laidlow from friends, fellow competitors and other key figures from the triathlon world. They include descriptions like ‘Rock and roll’ and ‘punk rock’ among others. Proof again that the 24-year-old makes everybody sit up and take notice.
Epic ending in Nice
The 63-minute documentary culminates of course with that incredible day in Nice where Laidlow swam and biked a high-class into submission before running to glory on the Promenade des Anglais. The culmination of that much-storied family project.
