American triathlete Sam Long, who is soon to become a father for the first time, is keeping his options open ahead of the PTO Tour US Open in Milwaukee – which coincides with the due date of his son.

The Boulder native, who has been crushing it so far this season on the domestic scene, shared the challenges that come with such big life events as an athlete.

In his most recent YouTube video, Long revealed he is still training hard, but is yet to get his hopes up about making the start line in Wisconsin.

Sam Long – “life is just so full”

Whilst Long admitted that it is hard not knowing whether or not he will make the start line in Milwaukee, he added that the happiness that comes with his growing family more than makes up for it.

“Life is just so full and it is so complete and I’m hoping it can give me that extra drive. Of course it’s hard knowing that I might not even make it to Milwaukee.”

Whilst he is still unsure if he will make the trip to Milwaukee, the ‘Big Unit’ confirmed he is still in great shape and despite the challenges will be ready to rock.

“It’s been hard to totally train and totally be fired up for a race when you don’t even know if you’ll get there.

“I want to be at Milwaukee, but I haven’t let my heart get fired up for it in the same way as I don’t want to be letdown if I don’t make it.”
