No Jan Frodeno versus Alistair Brownlee… not this weekend, anyway!
While there has been much talk of a ‘showdown’ between two-time and reigning IRONMAN World Champion, Jan Frodeno, and the new to middle distance two-time Olympic Champion, Alistair Brownlee, that race will have to wait a little while longer. While Alistair is on the start-list for IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona this weekend (as he was for IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca last week), we can confirm that Alistair will NOT be racing in Calella on Sunday.
Having won in style at IRONMAN 70.3 St George two weeks ago, Alistair is already qualified for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Chattanooga – and we suspect that his Mallorca / Barcelona entries were to keep his options open after his debut race at Challenge Gran Canaria. We know he will be racing at the Columbia Threadneedle ITU World Triathlon Leeds on 11th June, which is likely to be his only WTS start of 2017.
British Pro Entries for IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona
- Emma Pallant
- Catherine Jameson
- Natalie Seymour
There will however be British interest this coming weekend. Emma Pallant has already won at Challenge Gran Canaria and finish second at 70.3 Mallorca last week. Natalie Seymour had a great race to finish third last weekend at IRONMAN 70.3 Pays d’Aix in France, and they will be joined by Catherine Jameson who you can always fully expect to be right up at the head of the race with her swim / bike strength.
