SUPERSAPIENS JOIN RANKS OF IRONMAN PARTNERS

World’s First Glucose Monitor Ecosystem for athletes becomes
“Official Real-Time Energy Management System Partner” in selected European countries

IRONMAN® athletes want to know a lot about their bodies. Actually, make that everything. Today, they are getting one step closer as Supersapiens and IRONMAN Europe announced a new partnership for the upcoming 2021 season and beyond.

Supersapiens, powered by the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor, is the first direct-to-consumer energy management ecosystem for athletes, and gives users real-time visibility into their blood glucose, allowing them to fine-tune fueling strategies for training, racing, and recovery.

The deal will see Supersapiens become “Real-Time Energy Management System Sponsor” in Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the United Kingdom in 2021. Supersapians will extend the partnership to other IRONMAN countries and regions  pending countries’ regulatory approval.

“At Supersapiens, we know that it’s a substantial challenge to properly manage fuel levels when competing in IRONMAN and IRONMAN® 70.3® events,” said Supersapiens CEO and founder Phil Southerland. “IRONMAN saw athletes using the Supersapiens ecosystem and immediately recognised how our product would be useful to triathletes. We’re delighted to work with IRONMAN and to see what athletes can achieve with real-time fuelling insights.”

The Supersapiens ecosystem includes the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor, the Super-sapiens mobile App, and a forthcoming reader that displays data from the biosensor in real time. Supersapiens marks a major advancement in sports science by eliminating the need for guessing games with fuel strategies. The app tracks glucose data in real time and allows athletes to create events – workouts, meals, and rest – so they can see how various glucose levels impact racing, training, and recovery. And the Education Hub  offers educational materials that helps athletes bet-ter understand glucose and the impact it has on performance.

“The old adage still applies – a race car with no fuel will lose to the horse that had a solid break-fast. Energy management is a critical piece of IRONMAN race day success. Supersapiens helps open the door to not just managing your energy on race day, but also learning about how your nutrition and training mix to create success,” added Earl Walton, Global Director, Training and Coaching at IRONMAN.

The ecosystem allows athletes to arrive at the race start line confident in their fueling strategy, and also gives them continuous real-time guidance on how to adjust fueling during the race to achieve their optimal performance.

“IRONMAN athletes aim to push their performance to higher and higher levels, they require more performance insight,” said Supersapiens co-founder Todd Furneaux. “We have seen how real-time insight into glucose levels that the Supersapiens ecosystem provides, helps athletes perform bet-ter, allowing them to break personal records, set course records, or achieve what they never knew was possible. We can’t wait to share that insight with more Ironman competitors.”

Supersapiens launched to the public in September 2020 and began shipping to consumers in select European markets in December 2020. The Supersapiens Ecosystem, including the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor, is available now in select European markets at www.supersapiens.com
