Team Tri-UK Gatorade athlete, Calv Hobday, recently completed the inaugural '6633 ultra', a self-sufficient 352 mile monster of an ultra marathon inside the Arctic Circle in Northern Canada towing all necessary provisions on a sled. Finishing in third place, and taking over seven days to complete, Hobday was well pleased with his efforts. The course started from Eagle Plain on the Dempster Highway in the Yukon and ended on the shores of the Arctic Ocean at the (very) remote hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories.

"I'm a veteran of Ironman races in nice hot places like Lanzarote and Hawaii, I can honestly state that I have never done anything so difficult in my life", commented Hobday. "It was indescribably cold, dropping to -38°C, without the windchill factor, the conditions contributed to tendonitis in my lower legs that made the last 120 miles, which was entirely on a frozen river delta, very, very painful and very, very slow. It was certainly a challenge and the jury is still out as to whether it's one I would choose to repeat!"

Former soldier Hobday completed the race as a fund-raising exercise for the Royal British Legion, and has so far raised over £8000 for the ex-services charity.
