![]() Bryn Bach aquathlon report Posted on: Friday 30th May 2008 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend Race 2 In the Parc Bryn Bach aquathlon series drew in a larger contingent of athletes with a decidedly more hospitable evening in the South Wales valleys than greeted the hardy souls from race 1. With the race season hotting up a number of GB age groupers looking to sharpen up before the Worlds in Vancouver, as well as local athletes with key races in the Welsh Championships coming up doubled the start list as 52 athletes entered the lake at 7pm. Dan Brook was the men's pre-race favourite but with a number of other elite and highly talented athletes entered he was sure not to have it all his own way. A strong swim from Dann took him into T1 with a small but comfortable lead which he proceeded to increase throughout the run. Competition for the rest of the podium places was much closer with less than a miute seperating the next three athletes. Rhys Jones of Rhonnda Tri fought through to a strong second ahead of Richard Haines. In the ladies race previous winner and favourite Eloise Crowley wouldn’t be defending her title as a leg injury restricted her to only a swim, leaving a competitive women's field to fight it out for top honours. Eloise again proved her talent in the water exiting as first female easily in the top ten overall but it was left to Julia Warner from Cardiff Triathlon to come through with a strong run to take first place, finishing 17th overall. Jessica Parry-Williams came through in second place to make it a one-two for Cardiff with Maria Prout filling the final podium place. |
