Hillingdon Triathlon Series - Race 2 report Posted on: Sunday 29th June 2008 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment Quite a contrast to the rain of event one, the second round of the Hillingdon Triathlon Series took place in perfect, dry conditions this morning. A full field of around 100 arrived for the triathlon, and accompanying duathlon event over the 600m swim, 6km run, 25km bike course - yes, it is swim / run / bike format... While host club Hillingdon Triathletes dominated most of the podium positions, Matt Molloy (Team Herbalife) lead every inch of the race, taking more than 30 seconds on the swim, extending that on the run and then consolidating on the bike for a dominant victory. He finished with the fastest swim, second fastest run and fourth fastest bike for a complete triathlon performance on what was an anniversary - his debut triathlon was this race last year, and he was over eight minutes quicker today! Behind, there was a real tussle between team-mates Clark Schofield and John Franklin. Clark is a multiple race winner on this course, and finished second in race one. John has been piling up the miles of late, with his primary goal for the season Ironman UK. While a photo finish wasn't quite required, there was an almighty neck-and-neck sprint to the line, where Clark just edged John by half a wheel-length. Like Matt, ladies winner Jenny Shorrocks lead from the front, exiting the water second overall and then building enough lead on the run to hold off the faster cyclists. However, she had quite a shock when speedy 12-year old Sky Draper (Jetstream Tri) came past on the run! Sky was doing the swim/run sections in a relay with her father, and had come out of the swim fourth overall - though Jenny didn't know that at the time... In the duathlon event run alongside the tri, Jason Maddocks took a narrow win (1:05:03) over Noah Knock (1:05:32), while the ladies event was won by Samantha Bell (1:17:45).
The third and final race in the series is in two weeks time - July 13th, and the event will also for the next round of the Triathlon London League. The race is almost full, and entries will NOT be accepted on the day, so if you want to race, get your entry forms in very soon. Full results are available on site for the triathlon and the duathlon. ![]()
