![]() Chrissie is Queen of Alpe d'Huez Posted on: Thursday 31st July 2008 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment The World Ironman Champion, Chrissie Wellington, has sent a stark reminder to her closest rivals, and that is; she's shaping up as one of the toughest and most impressive Ironwomen of all time. Returning yesterday to the race she won last year, the Alpe d'Huez triathlon - a race which sees the bike course climb the most famous mountain in the Tour de France - Chrissie came close to winning again this year... the overall race that is! This year Chrissie finished second overall, in a time of 6:17:02, just over a minute and twenty seconds behind the Brazilian Marcus Ornellas, who finished in a time of 6:18:25. Her team mate Stephen Bayliss, struggled on the tough bike course where he lost some valuable time (perhaps seeing Chrissie ride past he somehow lost motivation), but he still came home in eighth place and impressively recorded the fastest run split of the day. Bella Comerford called it quits on the run and decided to save her speedy running legs for another day. Just to add to her spectacular performance, Chrissie recorded the fastest triathlon time in history - including men and women - over the infamous 21 hairpin stage of the bike course. And there's no doubt about the accuracy of the time, as Tour Timing were there to record the data.
