![]() New triathlon club launched in Ealing Posted on: Thursday 2nd July 2009 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend ESC D3 TRIATHLONEaling Swimming Club, the country’s largest swimming club, is lauching a new triathlon club - ESC D3 Triathlon - based at Gurnell Leisure Centre in Ealing. Johnny Wright, General Manager of Ealing SC, said “This is the result of an excellent working partnership between Peter Clarke (Ealing Council), Jon Train (Triathlon England), David Arnaud (D3) and ourselves. What is more, it has been incredibly quick: from a first meeting mid-April to the ESC Committee agreeing to do it was three weeks. It is not our first involvement with triathlon: Michelle Dillon and Stuart Hayes swum with our elite Squad prior to competing in the Athens Olympics in 2004 and a number of triathletes have swum with our Masters over the years. It is also part of our swimming strategy: we want to retain swimmers either in our sport or a related one. So we need to offer choice. We already have an active and growing Masters section, we are energetically building Junior and Senior Water Polo and by creating a triathlon club, we can offer older swimmers another legitimate and relevant choice. Athletes from D3 will form the initial kernel of the new club but we hope we shall soon have a healthy number from all over West London. As in swimming and water polo, we hope the new club will soon be active in triathlon competition. Enquiries to Johnny Wright on 020 8994 9935 or wrightpartners@hotmail.com |
