The club based at Southglade Leisure Centre, Bestwood, Nottingham was launched by Steve and Jayne Lloyd in April this year and provides adults and juniors the opportunity to learn and develop the skills needed for triathlon whether they are a complete beginner or experienced triathlete. The club provides coached weekly training sessions across all three disciplines and runs a weekly Junior Club every Sunday for children aged between 8 and 16 years, they have also recently secured the National Watersports Centre for open water swim training. All abilities are welcome including beginners and sessions are lead by Steve Lloyd a Level 3 Triathlon Coach and an active triathlete who qualified for the World Championships in 2008. Steve said “I have been staggered by the amount of people attending our sessions and becoming members, I have worked with Triathlon Clubs for years and this is unheard of. It goes to show that there was a need for a triathlon club in the north of Nottingham, people are joining for all sorts of reasons including just to get fit and have a challenge as well as many talented athletes coming to hone their skills”. The club was launched with the help of a Nottingham City Council grant and have already secured Langdale Lightweights bike shop as sponsor of the Junior section, they are also hoping to secure further funding from other sources to provide taster sessions for local schools and support and develop additional club coaches. Club Secretary Jayne Lloyd added “The success of the club has meant that we have been able to develop club kit, provide additional sessions and most importantly ensure that we are sustainable for the long term. Steve is also a very experienced coach and some people are travelling from as far as Newark to attend his sessions.” More information is available on the clubs site www.AbsoluteTriathlonClub.co.uk or you can contact us on 0115 9607912 or e-mail Jayne@absolutetriathlonclub.co.uk ![]()
