With the next race of her comeback in Mexico fast approaching, 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Gwen Jorgensen took the time to explain why she decided to base herself out of Boulder in her most recent YouTube video.

The American former world champion, who shocked many in the triathlon world when she announced her comeback to the sport at the start of the year, is slowly making progress in her return.

Having not had the smoothest start to top level racing after being lapped out at WTCS Cagliari a fortnight ago, Jorgensen has a chance to redeem herself this weekend at the Huatulco World Cup.

“It’s really fun to be here in Boulder”

Explaining why she is based in Boulder and not out of a suitcase on a training camp somewhere in Europe, Jorgensen explains that a number of factors, including family, played a part in her decision.

“I think basing out of Europe is what a lot of people do because there are a lot of races in Europe at this time of year and especially towards the end of the season.

“It’s really important to me that I’m not away from my family for four weeks on a training camp. It’s just personally a choice that I can’t do so I’m really excited to be here in Boulder.

“I needed to practice my open water swim”

In the video, Jorgensen participates in a local race, with the focus on improving her open water swimming, a factor that played a big part in her poor performance in Italy.

“I found this race because I needed to practice my open water swimming and I checked what they had at the Boulder Reservoir and they had this event.

“It’s really fun to be here in Boulder, with so many opportunities to race and I can just keep pushing myself and see where I’m at.

“This is a really nice time of year to be in Boulder and I’ve been looking at the schedule and there’s actually a lot of September or October races here that I might do.
