The countdown is on to Jan Frodeno‘s last Championship race as a professional triathlete at next week’s IRONMAN World Championship in Nice.

He has a CV like no other – Olympic champion, three-time IMWC, two 70.3 World titles and pretty much every other big race that matters, no wonder he’s the Greatest Of All Time for so many.

The season so far

And he’s written another remarkable chapter in the story already this season by putting a stellar field – which included reigning Olympic champ Kristian Blummenfelt – to the sword at the PTO US Open in Milwaukee.

That saw him push an injury-blighted 2022, where he slipped to #245 in the world rankings as a result of not racing, firmly behind him as he jumped up to #4 in the standings.

And he rounds off his last full season as a professional on the French Riviera as the men’s IRONMAN World Championship is held in Nice for the first time rather than his beloved Kona.

One final flourish?

He goes there with absolutely no regrets, saying in the latest video from his Bahrain Victorious team: “You make some mistakes along the way. You make some right things along the way. But it’s been a fricking cool journey.

“I was thinking about what there is left and what I want to achieve and what I can add.

“There’s honestly not much. I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. I don’t need to prove anything to myself.

“But the one thing that would change, that would add, that would multiply, is going out on a world title.”

And we’ll be checking in next week with Jan’s long-time coach Dan Lorang, who has guided him to all those incredible middle and long-distance triumphs, to get his insights and perspectives ahead of that ‘last dance’.
