OCS Young Sportsperson Awards 2018

The end of year always brings with it ‘awards season’. One of those that I don’t think we have mentioned previously on the pages of TRI247 is the OCS Young Sportsperson Awards (website).

OCS – “The world’s largest family-owned facilities management company” – has made bursaries in excess of £500,000 to over 200 young athletes, including 27 of whom have gone on to win Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medals for Team GB since the awards began in 1998.

The company says, “We have a commitment to investing in the communities in which we work. The Young Sportsperson programme is just one way that we support talent, and we are proud to be able to help these outstanding young athletes fulfil their potential.”

The OCS Awards are run in partnership with SportsAid (www.sportsaid.org.uk), the charity responsible for funding emerging sports talent in the UK and helping the next generation of British Athletes succeed.

The 2018 awards take place today, Friday, at The Kia Oval, London, where young triathlete Marcus Dey is one of eight regional finalists. Here’s a nice video covering Marcus and his triathlon season to date.

If the name is familiar, you may remember that I recently spoke to Marcus after he won the Junior Men’s race at Super League Triathlon Jersey at the end of September, an event he described as “an amazing experience”. You can see that full post-race chat here.

Congratulations to Marcus on your selection and nomination and hope you enjoy today.
