Is Vancouver set to be the newest location for the T100 Triathlon World Tour?
Reports from Canada suggest the planning process is already well under way for the west coast seaport in British Columbia to host the ‘T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival’ in 2025.
The Canadian Open in Edmonton in 2022 was the first ever PTO Tour event and saw Norwegian duo Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt dominate an incident-packed men’s race while Aussie Ashleigh Gentle bossed the women’s race.
But what is now the T100 Triathlon World Tour – which pits the world’s best middle-distance athletes against each other on a regular basis – hasn’t visited Canada since then.
‘T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival’
However the Daily Hive, an online Canadian news source, reports the “Vancouver Park Board has approved an application from the Professional Triathletes Organization and Do North Events to host the T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival special event from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, 2025.”
It goes on to suggest that “up to 12,000 participants would compete at Jericho Beach Park, Locarno Beach Park and surrounding areas during the international sporting event”.
That would continue the growing trend – which we highlighted earlier this week – of the PTO making age group participation a key priority.
The Daily Hive adds: “Vancouver’s event would be sanctioned by World Triathlon, Triathlon Canada, and Triathlon BC.
“The ‘self-sustaining initiative’ will also be supported and sponsored by the Vancouver Sport Hosting Grant Program and the Province of BC Hosting Grant Program.”
We asked the PTO about the potential development but a spokesperson simply said: “When we have any announcements to make, we will share them.”
Further expansion?
This season’s T100 Triathlon World Tour has been the biggest yet, with events so far in Miami, Singapore, San Francisco, London, Ibiza and Lake Las Vegas.
It all culminates in the Grand Final in Dubai next weekend where World Championship titles will be on the line as well as an end-of-season bonus pool of $2million.
Next year six of those seven venues – Miami being the exception – have already been confirmed as well as a new race on the French Riviera.
And the suggested 13-15 June date for Vancouver would fit into that schedule – Singapore (12-13 April), French Riviera (16-18 May), San Francisco (31 May-1 June), London (2-3 August), Ibiza (27-28 September), Las Vegas (25-26 October) and Dubai (November) – and make a new high of eight races.
More announcements around potential venues and contracted athletes are expected to be made by the PTO before the end of the year, with the top 10 men and women in the final standings after Dubai earning themselves automatic spots for 2025.
