Gustav Iden is now set to make his full-distance debut at IRONMAN Florida on Saturday November 6.

The Norwegian of course was all ready to lock horns with Jan Frodeno and Lionel Sanders among others at IRONMAN California last Sunday. That race though was cancelled shortly before the scheduled start time due to horrific weather in the area.

A ‘bomb cyclone’ brought high winds and record-breaking rainfall, while fallen trees were strewn across the bike course making it impossible to race.

PRO Race added to IM Florida

Originally there was no planned PRO race for the men in Florida, but IRONMAN moved swiftly to change that – giving racers registered for Sacramento the chance to line up in just under two weeks’ time. Iden is already on site in Panama City Beach, and ready to continue his preparation there.

One positive regarding the change of schedule for the two-time IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion is that it gives him more time to recover fully from the cold he had been battling in the lead-up to last Sunday in Sacramento.

Frodeno vs Iden still possible?

As yet there is no confirmation as to whether Frodeno might consider heading for Florida to rekindle that much-hyped meeting with Iden. To complicate matters for him, he has other business to attend to back in Europe this weekend – namely the new SGRAIL 100 race he is staging in his Girona base. That takes place on Sunday (October 31).

We also wait to see if Sanders will race in Florida. He had said he was done with full-distance racing this year after finishing a distant second to Joe Skipper in Chattanooga in September. But he reversed course to throw his hat into the ring for California.
