Meet The Shop sponsored by 2XU

As part of a regular monthly feature supported by 2XU (www.2xu.co.uk), Tri247 is going to be going up and down the country introducing you to the shops and staff that work hard to give you access to lots of triathlon goodies! So, if you haven’t been to your local shop this is the ideal opportunity to find out a bit more about them and pop in and say hello!

This month we are in Hampton Wick meeting the boys at Sigma Sport

The Sigma Sport shop is a veritable cornucopia of triathlon goodies! The big double-fronted display window gives you a great taster of what is inside but it’s only when you actually go in that your realise not only how much product they have but also how clever they have been with the space. There are three floors stuffed with triathlon and cycling equipment, clothing and accessoried plus a fourth floor for the workshop, back-office and storage space. All this is backed up by a warehouse unit about four miles away that handles all the stock and the mail/web-order operation.

Things you might not know about: Sigma Sport

  • Ian and Jason, the joint owners, met at school and started their partnership selling bike components out of Jason’s front bedroom.
  • The shop staff have had some weird and wonderful previous jobs but the pick of the bunch is Mick, who used to be an undertaker!
  • Sigma timed their initial involvement with triathlon perfectly; Andrew Johns and Tim Don rode Sigma bikes at the Sydney Olympics, AJ rode one at the Athens Olympics and Spencer Smith collected two Ironman wins on them as well.
  • Sigma Sport will be launching a professional road racing team in conjunction with Specialized and Sportful on Valentines Day.
