NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE RACE TEAM SECURES 4TH YEAR BACKING FROM BRITCON AFTER RECORD SUCCESS
Scunthorpe building and civil engineering company Britcon has committed once again as lead sponsor for an elite North Lincolnshire Triathlon team after a phenomenal year of racing.
2018 has seen exceptional performances from the Britcon Triathlon Race Team which includes Steve Clark (Middle Distance Triathlon European Champion 2015 and winner of the Triathlon X in 2017 “world’s toughest Ironman distance” as voted by 220 Triathlon Magazine), Steve Grocock (World Ironman Competitor), Jordan Skelly (3-time British age group winner), Amy Grocock (Great Britain Triathlon squad member) and Nick Martin (British Sprint Champion).
The most recent highlight for 2018 includes Nick setting a new course record in the Doncaster 10k on 25th November with a finish in just 30 minutes and 57 seconds. Amy was also the first lady over 35 to complete this race in just 39 minutes 58 seconds and Steve Clark made his fastest run of the year in 35 minutes and 03 seconds.
It’s been an epic year for 25-year-old Nick who has placed first in nine races including the Nottingham Half Marathon, Doncaster 10k, Tealby Trail, Woodhall Spa Triathlon, British Sprint Championship, Nottingham Duathlon, ‘Croxby Crippler’, Lincoln Aquathon and the Caistor ‘Sting in the Tail’ 10km for which he also set a course record.
As well as a ladies’ win for the Doncaster 10k, Amy was also overall ladies’ winner for the Lincolnshire Sprint Series David Lloyd Triathlon.
Jordan took on ten incredible challenges including the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa where he placed 156th out of 3675 racers. He also placed first in the Outlaw Half (Relay), second in the Day at the Lakes Aquathlon and second in the Lincolnshire Wolds Tough 10.
Steve Grocock achieved first place the Hever Castle Sprint for his age group and second overall. He also placed second overall in the Brigg Sprint, second in the Lincsquad TT Gold Series and second in the Alan Smith Challenge.
Whilst nursing an injury as well as a new baby, Steve Clark still managed to compete in seven races securing first place overall in the Brigg Sprint and second place int the Fire Service Aquathlon Championships.
Steve, who also runs Off That Couch Fitness training other budding athletes, said,
“We’ve had a really exciting year and are thrilled in particular for Nick. In 2018 he has performed out his skin with nine first places including the Doncaster 10k where 3,000 people entered! We are of course delighted that Britcon had committed to support us for a fourth year as we continue to represent North Lincolnshire in some of the world’s toughest races and pleased to announce that Jack Skelton, a triathlete from Scunthorpe, is joining the team.
“This year myself, Amy, Jack and Jordan will compete on the IRONMAN circuit during and hope to qualify for the IRONMAN World Championships in Hawaii in October. Nick will be racing his age World and European Championships as well as defending his British Triathlon title and other running races that he won in 2018. Steve Grocock will be racing on the Zwift circuit alongside other local events.
