Olympic Triathlon Champion announces Marathon debut**
(** Yes, we know she has run the New York Marathon previously…)
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday 7th October will represent the first ‘as a full-time runner’ Marathon of Rio 2016 Olympic Triathlon Champion, Gwen Jorgensen. Having said all year that her plan was to run a late season race over the distance, that the chosen event is one of the Marathon Majors on the fast course in the Windy City is not a major surprise, given its place in the calendar.
This year Gwen has run several events over 5000m, 10,000m, 10km and Half Marathon
- 5,000m indoors – 2nd (15:15.64) – in Seattle
- 10,000m outdoors – 31:55.69 – winning at Stanford
- Half Marathon – 4th (1:10:58) at U.S. Half Marathon Championships
- 10,000m outdoors – 7th (32:24.09) at U.S. 10,000m Championships
- 10km – 5th (33:10) at U.S. 10km Championships
- 10km – 8th (33:21) at the Beach to Beacon 10k in Maine
I have been so inspired running next to the marathon queen @ShalaneFlanagan that I have decided to sign up for on myself. I am excited to announce I will be running @ChiMarathon
I welcome all advice from anyone that has done the race. pic.twitter.com/KhOAoXjiVM— Gwen Jorgensen (@gwenjorgensen) August 27, 2018
