The 2024 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona provided an epic triathlon showdown, a race for the ages.
On Saturday October 26, we got a swim/bike/run classic, with “dudes frothing, epic risk-taking and epic blow-ups“, just as six-time Hawaii king Mark Allen had predicted.
The resulting “testosterone fest” saw the course record being smashed as Patrick Lange came from nine minutes down starting the run to claim a third victory in Kona.
While Lange was peerless at the front of the race, there were notable blow-ups for some of the other big pre-race favourites, notably defending champion Sam Laidlow and Norwegian superstar Kristian Blummenfelt. It was the most brutal of days on the Big Island.
We have the detail on every single pro man to finish the course on Saturday – and their times

Records fall on an epic day
As well as some epic performances, we got epic times to match with two Kona records falling.
Lange’s 7:35:53 smashed the course record set by Gustav Iden in 2022 by almost five minutes, while Laidlow’s blistering 3:57:22 bike split was more than seven minutes faster than the mark he himself had set in 2022.
