Supertri returns to what many feel is its spiritual home of Jersey this weekend.
The Channel Island was the first venue to host a full weekend of Supertri League action, stepping up to provide a spectacular backdrop after the initial test event on Hamilton Island back in 2017.
This year it will become the only location to host five Supertri League events, with the race also marking the 40th professional Supertri event across Supertri League and Supertri E.
Jersey previously hosted races in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 and the winners are a who’s who of triathlon – Kristian Blummenfelt and Katie Zaferes in 2017, Vincent Luis and Katie Zaferes in 2018, Luis again and Cassandre Beaugrand in 2019 and then 2021 when it was Alex Yee, in an iconic sprint with Jonny Brownlee and Jess Learmonth.
So we should be in for something special again this Sunday and here’s all you need to know…

Pro women – Who is racing in Supertri Jersey?
It’s a star-studded women’s line and features both the winners so far this season – Jolien Vermeylen from Toronto and Jeanne Lehair from Chicago.

They’ve both continued the good work in the WTCS and elsewhere but there are plenty of others lining up to take them on.
Not least Supertri’s most decorated athlete Georgia Taylor-Brown, fresh from her second place in Chicago.
Young Hungarian phenom Fanni Szalai notched a fantastic first podium with third in that last race and she and Vermeylen team up for Brownlee Racing.
Brownlee Racing: Fanni Szalai (18), Bethany Cook (15), Tilly Anema (11), Jolien Vermeylen (14)
Crown Racing: Georgia Taylor-Brown (26), Emma Jeffcoat (24), Miriam Casillas García (23), Nora Gmür (27)
Podium Racing: Jeanne Lehair (31), Zuzana Michalickova (33), Léonie Périault (34), Nicole van der Kaay (37)
Stars & Stripes: Maria Tomé (46), Anna Godoy (48), Nina Eim (41), Annika Koch (42)

Pro men – Who is racing in Supertri Jersey?
We’re guaranteed a new 2025 winner for the men as both Olympic champion Alex Yee (Toronto) and shock Chicago victor Alberto Gonzalez Garcia miss out here.
There would hardly be a more fitting winner than Jonny Brownlee, who spearheads his own team and provided one of the great Super League moments when he and Yee enjoyed that epic sprint to the line the last time we were in Jersey, just a couple of months after they’d teamed up to take Olympic Mixed Relay gold in Tokyo.
The Brownlee Racing team are showcasing plenty of young British talent and Oliver Conway is the latest of those to make his mark after a brilliant WTCS debut last weekend when fourth in Karlovy Vary.
Arguably the favourite on Sunday has to be Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca. He’s gone so close time and again this season in the WTCS, only to get run out of it by Matt Hauser but the big Aussie isn’t taking part in Supertri this time around.

This is how they will all line up:
Brownlee Racing: Jonathan Brownlee (11), Marcus Dey (13), Brandon Pye (15), Oliver Conway (12)
Crown Racing: Vasco Vilaça (26), Ricardo Batista (21), Charles Paquet (24), Roberto Sanchez Mantecon (27)
Podium Racing: Kenji Nener (33), John Reed (34), Tayler Reid (35), Mitch Kolkman (37)
Stars & Stripes: Mathis Beaulieu (41), Csongor Lehmann (42), Chase McQueen (43), Keller Norland (47)

More on the supertri teams
The Supertri League features three rounds (Toronto, Chicago and Jersey) plus the Grand Final in Toulouse, with additional points on offer for the finale. There are both men’s and women’s individual categories, but athletes are not just competing for themselves, they are competing for their squad in the Teams League.
Defending champions Crown Racing have some catching up to do as they currently sit in second on 166 points behind Podium Racing who top the table on 174. There’s then a larger gap of 45 points back to Brownlee Racing in third on 121, with a further 18 points the difference between them and last place Stars and Stripes Racing on 103.
Each team consists of four women and four men, and must contain an under-23 athlete in line with Supertri’s commitment to develop the future of triathlon.
The team managers are as follows:
Brownlee Racing – Tim Don
Crown Racing – Chris McCormack
Podium Racing – John Anthony
Stars & Stripes Racing – Parker Spencer
And with over $1million up for grabs in the prize fund this year – the majority again in the Teams League – there’s a huge amount at stake.
Jersey course and format
It’s the Enduro format – or now called ‘Supertri format’ in Jersey – as it will be in the finale in Toulouse.
That’s three back-to-back triathlons (all in swim-bike-run order), with no breaks in between.
Not everyone will make it to the finish though, because should an athlete fall more than 90 seconds behind the race leader at any point they will be eliminated.
The course also provides a range of challenges from the long steep ramp up from the swim through to the tight and technical course at Elizabeth Marina as well as what can be strong winds off the coast to contend with.
Each stage will consist of a 300m swim (one lap), a 4km cycle (four laps) and a 1.6km run (two laps).
And the crowds always come out in force in Jersey to generate a brilliant atmosphere.
Beginner’s guide to supertri
‘Normal’ rules do not apply in supertri and a small short cut, aka ‘Short Chute’, can be earned during the racing for being first across the line at various points.
You can earn a Short Chute in Chicago as follows:
- the first athlete across the mount line after the swim on Stage 1
- the first across the mount line after the bike on Stage 1 (i.e. after T2)
- the first across the dismount line after the run on Stage 1
Short Chutes are won for a team and awarded to an athlete during the race by their team manager. Short Chutes are to be taken on the first lap of the run in Stage 3. No team can win more than one.
