Wattbike’s Atom finally reaches United States
As I’ve said many times over the last few years (is anyone out there still in denial that it’s true?), the world of indoor training is the fastest growing sector in the cycling and triathlon market right now. Developments in eRacing will likely see a huge surge in that area too, over the next couple of years.
This is an interesting move for Wattbike and, if nothing else, would suggest that the logistical and marketing process of providing access to the U.S. market for the Nottingham-based company was not as simple as booking a few UPS couriers or a shipping container and warehouse…
It’s also a hugely exciting, fast-changing and competitive market. Peloton has recently been floated on the US stock market via IPO, plus we’ve seen the recent launch of the Wahoo KICKR BIKE, with other in the market from Tacx, Stages and no doubt other developments to follow sooner, rather than later.
Arguably Wattbike is late to the (U.S.) market, but at the same time it is arriving with a well-established and proven product elsewhere around the world. Interesting times.
Here is the full announcement from Wattbike USA.

Award-winning Smart Bike Offers Elite Training for Performance-Driven Athletes
Today, Wattbike, the original indoor performance training bike innovator, announces the launch of the award-winning Wattbike Atom in the United States. The Atom offers the most authentic, intelligent and adaptable indoor performance training experience for the home, ideal for any cyclist and fitness enthusiast.
With Real Ride Feel technology that replicates the sensation of riding on the road, indoor training on the Atom is the closest experience to riding outdoors. The Atom’s flexibility makes it the perfect year-round training tool, no matter the weather, to translate direct performance improvement on and off the road. It is ideal for both the thrill-seeking cycling enthusiast looking to improve pedalling technique and harness those marginal gains, as well as fanatics wanting to satisfy their workout needs at home.
“We’ve seen a real movement in the indoor cycling world within the past few years as attitudes have profoundly changed,” said Richard Baker, CEO of Wattbike. “We can now train, cycle and race on our own terms in the comfort of our homes. We’re excited to finally bring the Wattbike Atom to homes across the United States and really introduce superior indoor performance-driven training to all.”
The Atom’s measurement is more accurate than any other smart bike trainer. Wattbike Atom captures more than 100 data points per second, and paired with the free Wattbike Hub app, thousands of data points can be uploaded to evaluate performance and track cycling goals. Through the Wattbike Hub app, available on the App Store and Google Play, users have access to unrivalled insights in order to perfect technique. The bike can also be connected to popular third-party apps including Zwift, TrainingPeaks and more with Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity.
Wattbike is used by professional athletes all over the globe including the USA Cycling National Team and teams in the NBA, NHL and NFL. Since 2014, Wattbike has also supplied the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) with smart bikes for the use of elite athletes and coaches across a range of purposes including testing and rehabilitation.
