ETU Long Distance Triathlon Champion Yvonne van Vlerken joins the HUUB family

Specialist wetsuit and apparel brand HUUB has confirmed that Yvonne van Vlerken has joined the HUUB family of sponsored athletes.

The sponsorship of ‘the flying blonde Dutch-girl’ was signed in late August – ahead of the European Triathlon Union (ETU) Long Distance European Triathlon Championship on Saturday 9 September during Challenge Almere-Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

On Saturday, Yvonne blew the field apart. She won the Dutch and European Long Distance titles at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam in a course record time of 8:51:13. This was her 13th sub 9-hour performance in long distance triathlon. As Yvonne added immediately after the race, “5 minutes off the record, and 6 minutes faster than my own time back in 2007. Who says you get slower when you get older!”

Dutch triathlete Yvonne van Vlerken, or ‘Vonsy’ as she is affectionately known, is a prolific athlete. She is a two-time winner of the iconic Challenge Roth event in Germany, and she has previously held the world record for long course triathlon.

Commenting on HUUB’s latest sponsorship, company founder and CEO Dean Jackson said, “We are constantly on the hunt for athletes of great calibre and ability, but also those who understand it’s a two-way partnership. Yvonne is a true example of an athlete wanting to deliver on the race course and, in tandem, help support her sponsor partners across the marketplace.”

He continued, “Yvonne’s hard-fought 2017 ETU Long Distance European Triathlon Championship title showcases how formidable an athlete she is. She brings a credibility we can align with the likes of [HUUB-sponsored] Helen Jenkins. These athletes have performed at the highest level on the world stage.

“Yvonne really is a selfless athlete looking to spread the word of triathlon and her enthusiasm for it. She will most certainly benefit the HUUB brand across Europe and in key markets such as Germany.”

Yvonne van Vlerken said, “As an athlete who has been in the sport of triathlon for so long, I’m always on the lookout to gear up my game. By joining the HUUB family I am improving my weakest discipline.”

She added “My weapon of choice is the HUUB Acara wetsuit. It feels great. It’s so light; it gives me less problems with breathing and I have full range of motion. Not only have I become a faster swimmer since this change; but also, I just enjoy looking feminine in a wetsuit for a change!”
