Here are the details of Wednesday’s TRI247 Workout Series group session on Zwift. This is a brand new session, inspired by last week’s ETU Triathlon European Championship event at Strathclyde Country Park.

The session…

The session has been set by TRI247 Editor, John Levison, who spent last week at Strathclyde Country Park providing on-site event commentary and announcing for all of the Elite and Age-Group races, and so got to witness first hand the course that featured as part of Glasgow 2018.

“It was a tough course, without being extreme – a fair test which provided the opportunity for the strongest athletes to show their ability, and that was reflected in the results.”

The session starts with a progressive warm up, followed up by some short ‘primer’ efforts just to get the legs ready for the main set. Let’s think of that as the ‘swim’!

The course in Glasgow was undulating throughout, starting with a climb straight out of transition, and then trying to maintain that effort until the base of a short, but sharp climb until a 180° turn to descend (rest), before the return to transition over the same undulating roads – before we’ll (virtually) turn at transition and then repeat that for another ‘lap’.

Joining Instructions:

The workout will begin promptly at 7.00pm UK time, Wednesday 15th August 2018. It is worth logging in 10 or 15 minutes before the session to make sure you are set up and ready to go, where you will be able to warm up in the virtual ‘holding pen’.

Look for the TRI247 Workout Series event in the list on the right of the screen once you have paired your sensors. Click to JOIN and you will be taken to the start line ready to begin the workout.

Make sure you have set your FTP level correctly before you join the workout as all the intervals are based on a percentage of FTP so it is important to get that right. If in doubt, dial the FTP number down 10 or 20 watts as it is better to finish the session than to feel like it is too challenging.

Zwift Group Rides: TRI247 Workout Series

The cool thing about a group workout on Zwift is that varying levels of ability can ride together in a group and all finish the session together having done the same relative effort, even if the actual watts are significantly different. It is not a race, but a shared goal to get a good session in the training log.
