European Standard Distance Duathlon Champs – More GB Age-Group medals…

A little late on this one, the Standard Distance Championships at the ETU Multisport European Championships Triathlon Festival in Târgu Mures, Romania took place on Wednesday this week. The final events take place today (Aquathlon), and Sunday (Middle Distance Triathlon / Aquabike).

One again, Great Britain dominated both participation (86 of the 132 starters) and the medals, collecting 38 of the 59 medals (64%) awarded.

For the women, Rachel Wiseman was in a class of her own. The winner of the ITU World Champs this year (Pontevedra) and European Champs last year (Ibiza), she was once again not only the fastest British woman, but also the fastest across all categories. The fastest in every discipline – including both transitions – she finished more than eight and a half minutes quicker than anyone else. That was a pretty good birthday present!

Alex Doherty (35-39) was the fastest male finisher overall, adding to his World Championship Gold medal from Fyn, Denmark last year.
