Swim Tech Video: head for the swimming pool

With the open water racing and training season now well and truly over, Swim for Tri’s Dan Bullock has some thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and a video to help get you back to the swimming pool and off to the right start in your Autumn/Winter training.

Steve Trew on turbo training – part 3

This time Steve Trew presents a complete seven stage turbo plan. Which may seem odd, given that the season is just starting, but remember — not everyone has their main race for months yet, some of the big long distance races are in the Autumn! Turbos are not just for Winter training…

Steve Trew on turbo training – part 1

Steve Trew, as well as being our official link with triathlon’s Golden Years, is also a fine coach and we asked him to dust off some of his notes about turbo trainers and useful sessions. Prepare to suffer because, on a turbo, there’s no place to hide…

Steve Trew on turbo training – part 2

After Steve Trew’s fairly gentle introduction to turbo training sessions in part 1, we’re going to step up the level a bit with four key workouts which you can use at any point in a training programme when you’re not able to get out on the road but need to do some quality training.

Performance Running

Performance Running: no two ways

James Beckinsale aims to clarify the science from the myths, and put forward his approach to performance running, where he suggests “there’s only one true way to run for performance.”

Naked runners

Running naked

Mike Trees, Tri247’s running guru, really isn’t suggesting that you all strip off and run around in your birthday suits! It’s more about stripping things back to their essentials – and that means ditching the technology and understanding how your body should feel.

Mike Trees looks at taking your 10k to a new level with this ground-up training programme for beginners, or anyone who wants to put a bit more structure into their existing training schedule.

Bricks can build better duathlons

Mike Trees takes his running sessions even more seriously when they are part of his training for a duathlon. If your racing involves run/bike/run sessions then, Mike suggests, your training sessions really need to incorporate them as well.

Done in an hour: running

The third in our series of “Done in an hour” articles, James Beckinsale gives us three running sessions specifically targeting skills and technique, technique and aerobic capacity and finally lactate tolerance and strength.

Improve your 10k times

Mike Trees, Tri247’s running guru, wants to talk about the concepts behind a low mileage approach to running, an ideal solution for triathletes with limited time to train or those who injure easily.

Hop, sprint and sleep to go faster

Triathletes are renowned for over-training themselves so resident run guru, Mike Trees, turns his attention to making your running faster without having to fit in hours and hours of extra training.

Done in an hour: cycling

Conventional wisdom has it that cycle training means long sessions in the saddle but, for the time constrained among us, James Beckinsale has three sessions to offer which can all be ‘Done in an Hour’.

Swim Tech Video: torpedo drill

Dan Bullock, Head Coach at Swim for Tri takes us out of the water this week to look at someone else swimming the Torpedo Drill. Watch, learn and then go do it yourself! This is an excellent drill as it allows swimmers to focus on their full body rotation and kick without having to worry about the timing and execution of the pull and recovery phase of the arms.
