It’s been quite the summer for Jess Learmonth, and a Malibu house party would be some way to round things off after Super League Triathlon completes its 2021 Championship Series on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Learmonth has dominated the all-action format so far this month, coming home first at all three events so far – in London, Munich and Jersey. And that after claiming Olympic gold as part of the Great Britain Mixed Relay team in Tokyo.

A pot of gold awaits Learmonth

Jess goes into action on Saturday (1330 local time, 2130 UK – watch live on TRI247), knowing that she could come out of the race with an incredible return of $185,000 for her September efforts. That will be her reward if she wins again in California and also maintains the swim and bike jerseys AND her Eagles team finishes on the top of the standings.

While Learmonth will start favourite again, she is taking absolutely nothing for granted. The inclusion of Olympic champion Flora Duffy and IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Lucy Charles-Barclay as wild cards further spices up a super Saturday.

“I don’t feel like I have one hand on the trophy,” said Jess.

“There are extra points so I could drop down quickly and Georgia could finish above me. With Lucy and Flora in the race it will be a different kettle of fish. I would love to win the title. It would be amazing, and certainly much better than I expected.”

Outperforming expectations

Learmonth admits she didn’t imagine this scenario when she lined up in London earlier this month, and now she is seeking to end her summer in the perfect way.

“I had low expectations and it would finish it off. A few of us are staying for a few days after in Malibu so it would be a decent house party.”
