The 2022 Super League Triathlon Championship Series started in dramatic fashion in London on Sunday, with Cassandre Beaugrand and Hayden Wilde talking the wins.
Frenchwoman Beaugrand got the better of American Taylor Spivey and Georgia Taylor-Brown in what was a 1-3 for the Scorpions who dominated the points scoring.
And then in the men’s race it was pre-race favourite Wilde who obliged for the Sharks, but only after a thrilling battle with the gutsy Matt Hauser, who was seemingly wrongly penalised for a false start in the first swim. Alex Yee rounded out the podium in third.
Where and when to watch
Our explainer gave you the full details, with the women’s race starting at 1209 local time (1309 CET), followed by the men at 1324 (1424 CET).
We provided not only an embed from SLT which you can use to replay the action, but also a second-screen experience blog which featured interviews and insights from athletes and managers as well as regular video updates from Mark and Lucy Buckingham direct from the course in London.
The format and who took part
It was the ‘Triple Mix’, which meant:
- Stage One – Swim, Bike, Run
- Stage Two – Run, Bike, Swim
- Stage Three – Bike, Swim, Run (started in pursuit style)
And both fields were stacked as you’d expect – Georgia Taylor-Brown vs Cassandre Beaugrand vs Beth Potter vs Sophie Coldwell vs Taylor Spivey and others in the women’s.
And then the latest episode of that absorbing Alex Yee v Hayden Wilde rivalry in the men’s.
