RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon - Sunday 4th May 2014

Step out of your fitness comfort zone and raise money for charity at local triathlon

Rennie Grove Hospice Care is encouraging local people to step out of their fitness comfort zones this year and challenge themselves to take on three different sporting disciplines in the third RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon taking place on Sunday 4 May. The event will take place at RAF Halton near Wendover and is perfect for beginners or those who want to stretch themselves as well as giving experienced triathletes the opportunity to beat their previous personal best times.

To complete the event, participants will swim 10 lengths of a 30m pool, cycle 21k and round off the experience with a 5k run. Brian Evans from Tring took part in the event in 2012: “Although I had previously enjoyed boot camp fitness sessions and going for runs and cycle rides on my own, this was the first time that I had taken part in an organised and timed event and I would thoroughly recommend it to others.

“If you've got a good general level of fitness, these distances are perfectly achievable with some training and I would urge people not to be daunted by the prospect. The event itself was fantastic. RAF personnel officiate really well throughout and are so positive and encouraging – giving up was never an option! If you're even slightly tempted I would definitely recommend signing up. I really enjoyed the challenge of taking on all three disciplines at once and the feeling of achievement when I crossed the finish line was amazing.”

For those who really feel they can't take on all three disciplines, there is also the option of entering a team of two or three people and completing all three legs of the triathlon between them. Ruth Barber, Events Manager at Rennie Grove explains:

"We want as many people as possible to give this a try, so if you're ok to run and cycle but don't want to swim or if you just want to do one of the three legs, find friends, colleagues or family members to form a team and complete the triathlon between you. It doesn't matter what combination of the disciplines you do, as long as someone completes each one – and you'll all get a medal at the finish line!”

Entry to the RAF Halton Sprint Triathlon costs just £20 per person and includes a t-shirt, medal and chip timing. To find out more about the event and to register as a team or an individual, please go to
