ERDINGER Athlete of the Month – June 2017. And the winner is…
While there is still one more weekend of racing to go in July, it is time for us to reveal who we have selected as our ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Athlete of the Month for June 2017. Last months winner was Brian Fogarty. Read on to see who is next!
As we’ve said from the outset, picking a winner for this award can be based upon a range of factors including (but not limited to!):

June 2017: Michelle Willcocks
Our Athlete of the Month for June has shown great commitment, improvement and tenacity over recent years – and we feel is a very worthy winner.
In 2015 Michelle Willcocks finished took the Silver medal at the ETU Sprint Triathlon Championships (25-29) in Geneva. 12 months later and she raced again in Lisbon… and won another Silver (30-34). However, she still wanted to crack that top step of the podium and in June she was back in the GB colours once again in Dusseldorf – and this time managed to take the Gold in the 30-34 category. As well as Gold in her division, she was also the fastest British female overall and only beaten by one other Age-Group athlete on the day, winning her category by a huge margin of almost three minutes.
June was a busy month all round for Michelle – as well as the highlight of that European success, she also won her AG (and was second overall) at the Triathlon England Sprint Distance Championships (Thorpe Park), and then added another Triathlon England Gold medal, when finishing third overall at the National Aquathlon Championships in Leeds. As if all that wasn’t enough, just as the calendar ticked over into July she also then won another Triathlon England Gold (and was first overall), at the Standard Distance Championships in Ripon. Three English Championship Gold medals and a European Championship Gold within a month.
Great results, but there is more to the story too… she has achieved all of this whilst suffering from Ulcerative Colitis. Michelle underwent major surgery in 2011 (ileostomy) where her whole large bowel was removed and competes with a stoma. To participate in sport at all with this condition is considered an achievement, let alone at the very high standard Michelle does. She inspires fellow ‘ostomates’ from all over the world through social media who struggle to come to terms with their own conditions and lets them know it is still possible to lead an active lifestyle.
Congratulations on a brilliant season so far Michelle, and keep up the great work.
